The internet can be a bit frustrating once in a while..
One of the puzzling things is that when doing a website for people who aren't familiar with the web (usually folks unfamiliar with computers at all), they often think that it is as basic as typing up a page on paper...but they still want lots of bells and whistles, and don't think of time for design, content, and getting the word out, not to mention crosslinks etc.. One site recently took 10 weeks just to propagate through dmoz and make it to the search engines, even after we paid for a listing service. A few years ago it might take only a week, but now there is lots of competition to consider.
Internet hosts themselves can be frustrating too..
Luckily I finally found two really good ones:
For basic stuff inexpensivedomains.com works great and they are friendly and have good prices. None of that "$1 to host but you've got to buy a $60 membership and 25 domains minimum +" stuff.. For bigger needs, I use interland.net (formerly HostPro).
The first host is about $55 year and Interland is about $200
Hope that helps some of you out there who might be looking :>
best of luck!
