*sigh* (i.p.)
Nov. 21st, 2008 03:23 ameeeeeeeesh.
Well, I no longer have dedicated I.P. #s ... :/
For over ten years I've managed some business sites on an older web hosting plan that had dedicated I.P. numbers, and they have "Upgraded" us now to a new "Cluster" account, without our permission. A Cluster#@*$ for sure, they got that right.
And as what usually happens with these upgrades, we get the Newer/Better chat tech, which is just an automated virtual "Eliza", which can't really help at all... in fact it referred me to an escalation URL that goes 404. LOL. :D
Welp... as with any goodbye, it is bittersweet... but now we can look at far far far cheaper services for hosting, because naturally they didn't lower our price with the newer/better plan... (LOL again). And at least their timing is as idiotically self-destructive as their strategy (this is Web.Com btw...) ... they did all this 2 months before our plan is due for renewal, so we should have plenty of time to scram that bad apple.
The beeeyotch about it though may be the migration(s) for the sites, but I hope not.
rarrgh.

Date: 2008-11-24 12:54 pm (UTC)Glad someone chimed in on this...
Yop, it's an odd mix of feelin's and realities... the good part is mine and my client's hosting bills will go waaaaaay down..
The bad part is that a) I have to transfer lots of files to a new host, and b) Many of my LJ-IMAGES linked to the - 209.196.137.168 - IP address (which we had for over ten years! ...arrrgh!!) will no longer work... (such as in this postin (://"http://c-eagle.livejournal.com/31325.html")g).
That is a major bummer, for me, but I guess in the long run, how many people really go back and read people's old postings? Some do (like me), and to you I apologize -_-
If anyone wants to see older pics, please write me and I'll dig 'em up for you...
I may go through eventually and relink these, but I'll haveta see how time and space and interest goes..
