I just found out that Mozilla 1.2.1 might be the last developed for system 9 Mac :<
*wings to face and shakes head*

I sure hope not.. Mozi is the only thing that works reliably with LiveJournal for me.. *peep* All the others I've tried crash on refreshes or occasional odd code in postings.

I know I know... 'go system X' (or something else). :P There's a few clients I know who use it, and I've seen the several months of agony they had getting it to work with their hardware and software, and I'm just dreading having to do that... yet, anyway.

I know I'll probably have to go X someday or just leave Mac altogether, because reading the trades is depressingly like 95% X development, even in shareware now :|
Sure, there's good things about it... but not enough to push me (and especially my wallet) into that melee quite yet...

I don't know eagle...

When I was reading about OSX I thought it sounded really good... and when I looked at it I really liked it. Its unix... has a command line... and all the nice mac interface and design features. The only thing I think is a drawback is that they went to a binary config subsystem and did away with all the wonderful ASCII text files. That made them easy to edit.

Well... I like OSX and thought that you would have already been using it.

Snugs!

Puts on the ol' Apple expert hat...

Hey, C! First of all, I assume you have a model that supports OS X. That would be any Mac with a G3 processor or better, preferably post-beige model. You will also need at least 128mb free ram. This is so you can run Classic mode.

Now, I will admit, going to OS X does sound scary at first. "I'll have to leave behind my Classic programs! What if my peripherals won't work?" Most printer, I would say about 98%, have OS X compatibility. A lot of the drivers are pre-installed with OS X. Scanners used to be a stumbling block, but that no longer seems to be a problem. Zip disks and several CD-RWs work right out of the box as well.

I'll admit, I was a late adopter of OS X myself, being an 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it' kind of guy, but now that I've gone to OS X, I haven't looked back! Sure, I had to find a few new programs to replace my old Classic ones, but this has been a very minor bump. And with all the free programs from Apple, including their Mail client and Safari web browser, it was pretty simple to switch.

If you have any other questions, let me know!

yeah... :/

I guess I might settle for a Sony Vaio with NT or SuSE it...

Indeedaroney.. b b b b but.. you mean I can't use it if my Plus only has 4M ram?
*ulp!*

Seriously though... I know I'll get used to it, if I haveta. *scritches ya*
I haven't seen the 98% success rate.. maybe 70% when working in the field.. and a few things like ICQ were a total drag to migrate on other's systems ;P

I'm glad yer a 'aint broke dont fix' person too.. *hugs*... but apparently ya took the plunge into X at home before me... yeeeep!

I guess a major part of my point is, with win trying to be more like mac, and mac trying to be more like win... it seems like mac no longer has the edge on a lot of things, making it worthwhile to stay with it.. Well, except for this new music thing, but then that's just a matter of time if they want a real income market, at which time other platforms will be able to dl music legally thru them too. *chirrtle*

The only other advantage I can see that it still has is being near impervious to viruses, but still, that primarily applies to pre-system X.. 8|

I do like the idea of the Safari browser too, but I haven't tested it yet. I guess I just like a company to be of the mind not to throw their customers away. Hey, if I wanna keep running my older machines, it doesn't mean I'm not buying newer machines and using them too! *arf!* Can't they keep some older-OS and hardware knowledgeable people around? It's not like they have expired, is it? *arf!*

*scritches you* Thanks for the commentations and postulations, jellicle fellow!
