Ya know, them times when ya had other plans, but something jumps into the way and ya begrudgingly have to deal wiffit...

One of those computer 'thorns' are unexpected updates that break things. Happens on phones too.. guess we've all encountered them. I try to block 'em HARD, but sometimes they slither around the protections.

Somehow my protected Opera browser found a way to simply check for updates, and possibly even installed them, and it broke my free pass on YouTube ;P
Yep, somehow for about a year I had some mysterious cookie or setting on it that would only deliver ADs on YT when I was logged in! I thought it was just a new YT policy... for all I know, I suppose it was and they just changed it yesterday... or maybe it was my browser too.. maybe both ;P

It might have also been initiated by a system crash that happened when I plugged in a new monitor. In any case, I saw that it had updated and the change coincided with that.

So my whole evening was spent trying to fix it. I got a partial fix... I *think* I've been able to block the update check with the firewall, ... but I haven't been able to gt the free YT back :P

Half the battle is something I guess....

I guess it's -fairly- safe to say now that the YouTooob ads thing is just part of a 1,2,3 coincidence.
After doing a full system restore to a week ago, I'm still seeing ads on YT now. Ah well...

Wasn't sure, because there had been that avalanche of things all happening the same day, .. the browser suddenly trying to update, the YT ads, and the crash when I plugged in the different monitor.

AH WELL ;P

At least traditional Ad-Blockers and Script-Stoppers seem to work. I'll just have to start using those again.

I've always said I don't mind a few ads to help websites pay the bills, but when the level of ads is insidious and so invasive that it kills the experience, gotta draw the line.
