how the show works
Jul. 17th, 2008 09:18 pmin a nutshell. :>
Before Leno leaves the Tonight Show next year, in a rare example of daring, mom suggested she would like to see him in person at least once.
After some investigation, it turns out you write in for tickets asking for any of three choices of days, and two months later they send you one of those random days. I guess this rules out people knowing and scrambling for dates based on the guests of the show.
We got sorta lucky and were assigned today, so, we got to see David Spade, Jordana Spiro, and (d'oh!) ColdPlay :D
It was not Leno's funniest night, on camera anyway... asking about Spade's mom's house in Arizona. I hadn't known before that he did the audience warm-up too, and this is where he was funniest tonight. Melendez was fairly funny also, and the band was good. Nice to hear it play instead of commercials. I think I got the biggest laugh when set up a test to compare who would be the best at siphoning gas... a trombone player, or a smoker.
We got there around 11am, since we thought ColdPlay would fill the place up too fast (they overbook). There had been a number of people camped out overnight, but not enough to cause a huge problem. They let us in about 3:15 and kapow!... they really get the show going fast! Afterwards (since this was a "concert series" band) they took us outside to hear the band do two songs underneath butterfly shaped confetti. It was all wrapped up by 5:20pm.
I don't know if we got on camera, but chances are that my distinctive n fun laugh (so I'm told) will be sprinkled about the soundtrack ^v^ .
Fun day, but yes... pretty much a whole day! So come check it out tonight... ColdPlay is on Leno... wooot!!
