Today's Computer Escapades...
I had a big workday ahead today, but I was still hoping to get away by 2 or 3 and make it to a friend's birthday... but at 6:30 pm I was still workin', and had to even schedule another session for tomorrow.. so I didn't make the event :/ (sorry critter... *hugs* I hope it was fun!)
It's yet another Dr.'s office, and a new customer too, so I wanted to make a really good impression. I guess they liked me... they are already asking if I'd come to their house and carve the halloween pumpkins. heh!
As with many businesses, they just never got around to doing many upgrades because 1) they spend all their computer money on proprietary software which 2) works the way they want it to and 3) prefer to devote their time to their customers/patients. So it was slow-going on a lot of the systems. They have at least a dozen old machines in there, some as old as the late 1980s, all working... so this visit was to transfer files around the old systems, and to install a couple new ones.
The initial install of Vista went faster than any I've seen yet!... but once Norton and I.E. got involved, the molasses crept in. They also didn't have very good connection access, and were missing some wiring too, so that took a trip to the store. Once I got active-X to allow an install of her pppoe flashrom, we finally got consistent connectivity, and could breath some sighs of relief. Still have to transfer files and apps, but by then it was after 6, so we tidied up and scheduled another session for tomorrow... many even Monday. arf.
Work is good!... but sometimes I wish the timing was better..
