Anybody have caller i.d. ?
What the heck good is caller i.d. when it can be spoofed so easily??

Have you gotten readouts that were clearly false... like 999-999-9999 ?
I dunno how they do it, but it certainly dimishes the value of the system quite a bit.

It's great for answering from people you know, but lotsa times, even from people ya know, there will be 'unknown caller', so either ya have to pick it up anyway, or listen to the screening on the answering machine and hope they talk. Bleh.

It's systems like this that have been implemented with incomplete thinking, which also keeps me from signing up for stuff like a "don't call list" ... Who dreamed THAT up?? Put your name *ON* a list to not get called, and then require you to update your registration regularly or else your number moves over into general circulation, even if it wasn't there before? ;P
Any system that *cared* about us would be a list of people you *can* call, not a list of people you *can't* call. rarrrrgh!! bureaucracy.... ;/

I have it, and it's never been an issue for me. Truthfully, I am not aware that I have ever been spoofed (maybe I'm not important enough?). The problem overall is that we have a system that tries to be compatible with everything made from the early 1900's.

And frankly, no one in technology wants to share technology between one another, so there are plenty of spaces for people to take advantage of the often badly-written code and poorly-designed infrastructure.

You make-a ze excellent-a point-a... Well, at least we're *supposed* to be moving forward where it comes to TV, rather than trying to appease everyone's 1897 phone system. That little adapter should make old tvs work, while allowing a long-needed upgrade in standards.

But yeah, heh.. maybe the telemarketers just love us a lot more than you. nyah. ;D *hehe*

I own a cell phone and list contacts. If I don't know the number I just let it go to voice mail. If someone really wants to get a hold of me they'll leave a voice message or text me. **Snugs**

Thank goodness I barely get any junk calls on the cel at all, but we do get a lot of spoofed and telemarketing calls at the ole home phone.. ;P
I don't use texts because I don't have a plan that includes them (they all cost extra).

Since I don't have Call ID, on my phone account anyway I show up as an unknown caller anyway.

Oh and we in OZ now have a do not call registry for not receiving telemarking calls. However charities, surveys and politicals are still allowed to call, but we rarely get those anyway.

I snuck on at the library. Been typing you emails on my lap top at my grandmother's house but I dont have net connection there. I should be home tomorrow althought I dont know what time and I should be off and on until rather late. I'll give you a buzz when I get on, going to try and do most of my packing tomorrow eve so I can have most of Friday to prepare and be myself! Merples.. But I hope to see you perhaps?
