I am just not sure what to think about Macs any more. :|
I bought an iBook new a couple years ago, and after just a year it was starting to have problems with the screen and keyboard (the logic board was recalled on that one).
Ah just got a used one from a friend 6 months ago, and the screen just gave up some pretty scary portents of things to come. :/
It's a keen machine, but oy... are these things solid any more?
Also got a great used one last year too, and it great as a portable work machine, but it's too slow and the HD is a bit slow to go very far with it. And the batteries are $160. *shudder* (luckily this one hasn't had a single hardware issue.. knock on wood as they say..)
The concept of these machines is terrific, but if they are going with shoddy stuff, then that's a lotta dough to keep believing in. And as many have said around blogs etc. is that the new machines with Intel sounded *awesome* at their release, but they still have a LOT of limitations and support, and they won't allow most of the older software to run (MORE big bucks retooling). Bleah.
:| After the last decade and a half of mac trying to be windows, and windows trying to be mac, I have to admit that there doesn't seem to be a significant difference anymore (except for macs resisting viruses, and who knows how long that'll last. I've caught mac viruses before). And the advantage is nearly cancelled since windows has rewind (restore) and macs don't. BIG drawback.
Just upgraded a customer to Tiger also, and it killed their printer, and neither mac nor the printer manufacturer is releasing an update. Apple just wants you to buy the new OS, and the printer company just wants you to buy a new printer. Oh yeah, and a lake of ink.
Bleah.
